There is a diverse selection of eBikes available for purchase on the Electric Bike World online store, including road bikes, mountain bikes, and fold-up bikes. We understand that for those new to the hobby, this vast selection could prove confusing. So if you’re searching for your first eBike and you need some advice, here’s a guide to help you choose the style of bike that’s best for you.
Which Electric Bike Should You Choose?

Road Bikes This style of bicycle is designed for speed. They function best when used on a road or in an indoor cycling environment. So if you’re searching for a bike for transportation or leisure and speed is an important factor for you, a road bike might be your best choice. Road bikes function fantastically for commuters who are searching for a swift bicycle to take them from home to the office. Additionally, they’re also a great choice for food delivery cyclists because as their name suggests, road bikes are designed to provide good performance when cycled on the road.
Mountain Bikes If you would like to ride off-road, a mountain bike is your best choice. There are two main types of mountain bike, hardtail and full suspension (also known as full sus). Neither style is objectively better than the other, with each having their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The difference between the two is simple; hardtail bikes only have suspension at the front of the bike, whereas full sus bikes have suspension at both the front and rear of the bicycle. When compared to hard tail bikes, full suspension bikes have more traction, which provides cyclists with the ability to corner faster, and absorb impact from jumps. However, the hard tail bike reduces the weight of the bicycle, and increases the energy-efficiency of the bike, which makes it a great choice for people who would like to ride their mountain bike on smooth roads and off-road trails.
Step Through Bikes This style of bike has a shorter top tube and reduced stem lengths which means that people who are shorter than average or have a slender build may find a step through bicycle preferable to other bicycle frames. Often they are marketed as ‘bicycles for women however, step through bikes are not exclusively for ladies. However, whilst in general women’s bodies are different from men’s bodies, it’s important to remember that people do come in a wide range of different shapes and sizes. This means that some women may feel more comfortable riding a bike that is marketed as a bicycle for men, whereas some men may prefer the step through bike, often marketed as bikes for women. Did you know, in Europe as many men ride step through bikes as women?
Folding Bikes One of the main differences between folding bikes and ‘regular’ bicycles, is the size of the wheels and frame; both of which are smaller than the average regular bicycle. The small wheel size would reduce the max speed of the bicycle when compared to regular sized bikes, however it does mean that the bike will accelerate quicker, making it a great choice for urban areas with no cycle lanes as you’ll need to be able to quickly accelerate when traffic lights turn from red to green. Additionally, it’s also important to note that electric fold-up bike’s pedal assist motor will help mitigate some of the disadvantages regarding the speed of the bicycle. Also, another big difference between fold-up bikes and other styles of bikes is the fact it can fold up. This makes the bicycle a great choice for people who need a portable bicycle, for example commuters, people living in urban environments where space is at a premium, or people searching for secondary transport whilst travelling on holiday in a caravan, motor home, or canal barge.
