for an electric bike to give them a boost of speed, here’s a quick guide to going fast; a guide for fast electric bikes.

Going Fast On Electric Bikes – A Guide For Speed Seekers

People use electric bikes for numerous different reasons ranging for leisure to commuting to work. As such, there is a wide range of different eBike products to choose from. As such, when searching for your speedy eBike, it’s important to choose a fast bike that fits your needs.

How Fast Can You Go?

With regards to electric bikes and how fast you can ride them, it’s important that you understand the legislation regarding road-legal electric bikes. The legislation thatgoverns electric bikes and eBikes is European legislation, which means it could change after Brexit, however for now UK Legislation is in harmony with the EU law.

Firstly, in order to ride an electric bike, you need to be over 14 years old, however youdon’t need a licence, you don’t need to register it, and you don’t need to pay vehicle tax. With regards to the electric bike itself, a road legal electric bike cannot provide pedal assistance above 25km/h (15.5 mph). Additionally, the power cannot exceed 250 watts.

Bikes which meet this standard and these requirements can be ridden anywhere that regular bicycles are allowed, such as cycle paths and roads.

Can eBikes Go Faster Than 15.5mph?

Whilst there are off-road bikes that can go faster than 15.5mph, it is important to note that these are not road-legal as they are not compliant with the EAPC regulations for use on roads. If the bicycle is more powerful than 250w or if it goes faster than 15.5mph, it will be need to be registered as a motor vehicle. This includes insurance and tax. Additionally, you’ll also need a driving licence and you will need to wear a motorcycle helmet.

Choosing A Fast eBike For Leisure

If you want a fast eBike for personal use, to ride during your spare time, you’ll need to decide what environments you would like to ride your bicycle. For example, do you want to ride in urban environments, or would you like to take your bicycle off-road?

It is important to remember that a road-legal electric bike is not necessarily a bicycle that is limited to cycling on the road. For example, the Life Cycle mountain Sport electric mountain bike on our online store is equipped with a road legal throttle and zoom front fork suspension.

An alternative choice for speedy electric bikes for leisure could be the Life Cycle StradaGT. In addition to being a very fast road legal electric bicycle, this eBike has an effortless range of over 80 miles. Also, thanks to the hydro-forming technology used in the design process this bike provides both a speedy and a comfortable ride as a result of the improved strength and rigidity of the bike.

Fast Bikes For Commuting to Work

If you want a fast electric bike to help you on your commute to work, you’ll need to make a decision regarding if you would like to purchase a folding electric bike. If you want the compact storage advantages of a folding bicycle, combined with the boost of speed from an eBike, the Traveller is a great choice. Armed with a long distance battery, hi torque motor, twin disc brakes, and a road legal throttle, this eBike is a great choice, able to climb steep hills with ease. Additionally, thanks to its fold-away design, it can be folded for easy storage whilst you are at work or on the train. However, if you are not interested in a fold-up electric bike and would instead prefer a swift electric bicycle to give you a boost on your commute to work, perhaps the Life Cycle City Sport will be of interest? This variation of the above mentioned Mountain Sport is designed for use in the city. In addition to its road legal throttle and 70 mile range, it includes a longer mudguard; offering protection to your work clothes during wet commutes.
